A letter to our valued customers

October 1, 2015

Dear Valued Customer,

As our industry continues to evolve, we remain focused on finding ways to make your cargo experience with us more efficient.

With that in mind, we’re happy to announce a new simplified pricing structure. Upon implementation, our pricing structure will include a single net rate price that reflects the combined line haul and surcharge structure you are familiar with today. In addition, we have eliminated millions of redundant and unnecessary rates by creating a zoned structure for our level and published rates. These combined changes will result in a smaller and simpler tariff going forward.

While rate simplification is beneficial to you as our customer, and also helps streamline our internal business processes, we recognize that future circumstances may require a mechanism to address rapid and unforeseen changes to the cost of transportation. For example, changes could be driven by large swings in the price of fuel or currency exchange, as well as any new regulatory burden placed on the transport industry. If warranted by these examples or others in the future, American Airlines will, in a transparent manner, implement a freight surcharge within the impacted region.

To make implementation easier, these changes will be completed in several phases, with the first phase taking place on November 1, 2015 for business originating in South America and Asia-Pacific*. Other regions will follow, with the full global implementation to be completed in the first quarter of 2016.  Just like today’s announcement for South America and Asia-Pacific, we will inform you in advance of the exact implementation dates for the remaining regions.

Together, with you, we work hard to provide the best products and services available with efficient processes and quick response times. As always, we remain focused on ensuring your experience with us remains as seamless as possible, and we are confident you will find the new pricing structure to be simple and effective.

Thank you for your business and continued support. We look forward to working with you more in the future. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your sales representative at any time.

Best regards,

American Airlines Cargo

*Due to local regulations, Hong Kong and Japan are excluded from these changes and will continue to use the current surcharge structure for rates.
